![]() ![]() Fab and Gear! Dances for Mods and Rockers: A Panth.Dune, 2015 Folio Society first edition. ![]() The fabulous illustrations are by Sam Weber. ![]() But I'm a Bookseller, so I listed it on eBay, where it lasted less than two hours. Ive got a copy of this edition as well Fantastic Edition. It is a thing of beauty, and I was sorely tempted to keep it, not least because the world of Dune is not one I have ever entered (I've not even seen the film). A copy of this printing came across my desk this week, complete with the poster which came with it (but not with the currently selling second printing). The first printing sold out very quickly last year. ![]() Their adverts have started appearing on my Facebook feed, and that's how I knew of their amazing edition of Frank Herbert's Dune. These days, the membership model has changed: anyone can go on the Society's website and buy one or more of their books. Folio Society books are lovely things, and every house should have at least a few of their slipcased volumes, usually with exclusive illustrations, on its shelves. Once a year they'd do a "go on then, everything's half price, and you only need to buy one book" sale, and I would usually go for something. They had my address though, so roughly every two weeks (it certainly felt that regular) I would get a new offer, a new catalogue, a new leaflet. Sucked in by an opening deal which provided great value for money, I then bought the requisite minimum of books, and let my membership lapse. For years, I was a member of the Folio Society. ![]()

Sam Irby herself, though, is a publicist’s dream: wildly funny, wholly unabashed, relentlessly charming (even when being extremely gross there are whole essays in Meaty about bathroom stuff), and, it turns out, a book marketing innovator. Samantha Irby’s new book Meaty is a re-release of an essay collection published in 2013-not usually publicity gold, even for an author whose second collection We Are Never Meeting in Real Life was a New York Times bestseller. ![]() ![]() ![]() God Always Loves You tackles this subject beautifully in a simple and uncomplicated manner. While there are plenty of children's bibles, and books about famous stories from the bible (Noah's Ark for example) on the market, there really aren't a lot of books for young children that talk about God's unconditional love. Told in very simply rhyme, with just two sentences per two-page spread, the text does a good job of getting the message across that God always loves YOU. Will he still love you?Īuthor Laird does a wonderful job of showing children that God will love them no matter what - whether you "stumble and fall" or "stand tall." Helping a friend? God will certainly love you for that! It's those times when things aren't going quite the way they should be, that maybe, just maybe, God isn't happy with what you're doing. Saying your prayers? Yes, of course God loves you for that. ![]() It's not difficult for children to understand that God loves them when they're good. Author Mara Laird helps little ones understand about God's unconditional love with her lovely new book, God Always Loves You. ![]() ![]() But youngsters who are just learning about God have many questions and don't always understand that no matter what God will love them - always. God always loves us - we should all know that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't expect the book to change anybody's opinion about things, but if it at least makes them pause to think, I'll feel as if I've succeeded in something. They just see them as a problem once they're here, without thinking about the bigger picture. Shaun Tan has said he wanted his book to build a kind of empathy in readers: "In Australia, people don't stop to imagine what it's like for some of these refugees. Tan differentiates The Arrival from children's picture books, explaining that there's more emphasis on continuity in texts with multiple frames and panels, and that a graphic novel text like his more closely resembles a film making process. Without the use of dialogue or text, Shaun Tan portrays the experience of a father emigrating to a new land. It features an immigrant's life in an imaginary world that sometimes vaguely resembles our own. ![]() The book is 128 pages long and divided into six chapters it is composed of small, medium, and large panels, and often features pages of full artwork. Regimented prayers are nice, but Vinny stresses that in any relationship communication is what matters and personal conversations with your Creator are key to a healthy spiritual life. ![]() The chapter Keep It Personal discusses how to make your adoration a one on one time with your Father. The 21 ways Vinny suggests are all very good but a few jumped out to me personally. Upon reading this book you will discover that both promises were kept quite well. He also promises an easy read, a “personal sharing of some of the things that have been fruitful for me and that have helped me develop a more meaningful relationship with God”. The book is divided into 21 chapters, one each for the 21 ways mentioned in the title. Vinny states in the introduction that the book’s purpose is to provide “enough to encourage you to give it a try if you’ve never done it, or to offer some additional suggestions if you’ve already spent some time in Adoration”. ![]() ![]() ![]() It is pretty obvious in this film that Cliff Richard has not acted very much. Rudge is naïve but happy to give up his fairground job and to adopt the stage name, Bongo Herbert. They agree on an eye-watering 50/50 split. Jackson talks Rudge into signing a contract so that he can become Rudge’s manager. It is here that Jackson discovers Bert Rudge (Sir Cliff Richard.) The story is about a talent scout/impresario named Johnny Jackson (Lawrence Harvey) who is down on his luck. In 2016 the film is ultimately a rather dated and lightweight musical. Like the Elvis Presley movies of the time, it was really just a vehicle to promote and showcase Cliff Richard and The Shadows and to render them on the silver screen.
